Hmmm for some reason I thought that would be the simple answer... also 
at one point
in time unistd.h gave me trouble when I didn't build libc under world.

Is libc_r the correct place to put getpwnam_r anyway?  My understanding 
is that just
where the userland thread implementation goes.

I never got a clear answer to that question either... basically I 
haven't made much
progress due to being unclear on several of these little issues.
