Isn't this in the FAQ somewhere? If not, it should be. :-) 4.6-PRERELEASE == 4.5-STABLE. As you may know, we (the release engineering team) have just started the release cycle for FreeBSD 4.6-STABLE. One of the first things we do is to change the version number/name to indicate this fact, and (more importantly) make sure that the base system and ports still work on a system claiming to be "FreeBSD 4.6". When we get to doing release candidates, you'll see 4.6-RC for a few weeks if you're tracking -STABLE. Bruce.
