If it's the latter then the dumb UPSTYPE should be correct. I have two boxes running this model with apcupsd without issue. Incidentally, based on your original description it almost sounds like your battery is dead (or very low charge) which would explain why apcupsd wants to shutdown immediately. Try running the ups without load for a few hours to see. G
