applet-widget.h is part of gnomecore, and thus will not exist in GNOME
2.  gnomecore cannot coexist with GNOME 2.0.  In general, any port that
depends on gnomecore or gnomecontrolcenter cannot exist in GNOME 2 in
its current form.

No, nothing like that exists.  You'd have to check with each port's
author.  I know ports like xchat, pan, balsa, and gnumeric already have
GNOME 2 counterparts.  Other than that, I don't know.
