You just need turn it on in /etc/rc.conf svscan_enable=YES and optionally set svscan_servicedir if you don't want to use /var/service. Some of the how-tos for DJBDNS use some really odd paths. It doesn't really matter where the service directory goes, since it should only contain links, but some people have the real dnscache directory under /etc which is a bad place to put it under FreeBSD.
