Since portability isn't a concern I don't think there is a reason, I
just wasn't aware of http://www.unix.com/man-page/FreeBSD/1/mktemp/.

The whole point is to make a file in /tmp unique, what ever the OP
wants to use to archive this.

However, I already mentioned "or something else unique" and provided
                              ^^
just examples. Is there something inadequate with giving examples?
