This little gem is indeed located in the handbook, at 
http://www.freebsd.org/handbook/current-stable.html#AEN13094.

I think it might be more useful if perhaps also mentioned on the ftp mirror 
list page of the handbook.  This would be the logical place one would 
perhaps begin looking for said stable sources via ftp.
