Have you tried NOT having your own /etc/pccard.conf? Don't be distracted by the fact that I have entered additional information in my /etc/pccard.conf for a CompactFlash card. I am invoking pccardd in the usual fashion (pccardd -f /etc/defaults/pccard.conf) which picks up the defaults file _and_ the local /etc/pccard.conf.
