They are benign for us (since we're using a little-endian machine),
but they are not so easy to fix since larger parts of the code rely on
#ifdef LITTLE_ENDIAN doing the right thing...  The BSD way to go were
#if BYTE_ORDER == LITTLE_ENDIAN, however.
