OK, yes, although you can override the default value of the app-defaults directory path using the XAPPLRESDIR environment variable, you can't otherwise change the default itself systemwide. Do you want the clients to read another configuration file that will specify the default location of all other configuration files on local filesystems? This would add the overhead of opening the extra configuration file and you'd be faced with a similar issue of chosing a location for the runtime determination of that path. Or do you want to have the clients search /usr/local/lib/X11/app-defaults first before looking in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/app-defaults? Or do you have another scheme in mind? Rich
