The problem with "older" releases of xntpd are that they have many serious bugs which affect how well they keep time between peers and how they handle reference clocks. The 3-5.x stuff does change frequently, however (although not as often as I've seen lsof change!). I'd say we're in late-beta with xntpd. We'll be at gamma as soon as we can find and fix the race condition some folks are seeing on some platforms, with a production release soon after. Even then, Dave Mills doesn't think xntp4 is all that far off. H
