Perhaps this could work a lkm and -stable users could "test" it, maybe even make it a kernel option or something, before it becomes part of the branch. Would someone be willing to do this? I would but I don't have the knowledge. Doug mentioned something about a patch to support bus mastering was already available for -stable, and that it was easy to find.
