At the time I was massing the driver, I thought of having it installed in /usr/include/machine, but it being a file under GPL, and those files relegated to their own separate subtree in the kernel, I didn't think that would go down so well. But if there's no problem, would be great to have it there. I guess the main thing is just to make sure that the awe driver (being GPLed) never makes it into the GENERIC kernel. Though I don't see that happening since none of the audio drivers are in it which makes sense.
