The short description is already displayed on the status line when you traverse over the package so you really have a fair bit of flexibility in how you want to display the menu text. It Um, the package name is already the menu prompt string and trying to put anything "to the left" of that will only cause you major woe on the side-effects. I think you need to go look at libdialog a bit next before you go making any interface decisions.
