I can vouch for problems with C&T devices relating to flickering.

My Chembook 9750 has had this problem as long as I can remember.  1/2 or
more of my X sessions start with some sort of flickering, and it usually
gets worse with time (= heat).

Interestingly, using the external video port and a monitor, I have
absolutely no problem at all.
