Don't see anything there that really deals with this though.  

sendfile() certainly isn't a final answer to anything, but that doesn't
mean it isn't useful.  Larry McVoy's (formerly of SGI) spice stuff
(ftp://ftp.bitmover.com/pub/splice.ps.gz) is also interesting.
