But changing its size changes the offsets of ifa_metric and ifa_rt
which are after it in the structure.

Also, netstat, route and ifconfig, at least, more or less depend
on offsets in that structures, though I don't know exactly how
(some of it has been rewritten to use ioctl() or the routing socket,
I believe).
