Would it be sufficient to #include a pre-newbus version of sio.c #if NCARD>0 (like what Peter did for if_ed) & beating the result into submission? Or have enough things changed in the last 6 months to make this non-viable? Even a gross hack like this might be more palatable than going w/o a modem..
