I did RTFM, and the examples given do not work for me.  from my
/usr/local/etc/smb.conf:

interfaces = 10.0.0.254/255.255.255.0  (.254 is xl1).

I also had 10.0.0.254/24.  Neither of which stopped Shields Up! from
connecting to my system.
