And it works like a charm!  Guess what.  liveice was the problem.  I'm
now running a 16KB stream just PERFECTLY!  

Oh.. one nit.. the perl script does not call catdsp, it calls 
dsccomething.  If you want me to submit a patch, I will.    8-)
