Just a mondo stab in the dark: I had the same problem (back in 2.2.6) which I concluded was caused by faulty hardware. The kernel somehow wasn't latching onto clk & rtc interrupts. Does everything look OK in "vmstat -i" or "systat -v"? Do you get 100 & 128 interrupts/sec? -Paul.
