I've tried rolling back the kernel (with the config submitted) a
whole month, but still the freezes continue. :(   There have only
been two commits recently to apm.c, so I'll concentrate on testing
around these.

It would help if I could get some feedback as to whether this
is a local problem or is affecting others as well.
