OK, I've copied back k6_mem.c and re-built my kernel and vmware works
fine :) Strange! but I have cvsup'd since the kernel I was originally
using (built July 20). Maybe something else has changed (in the
kernel) that has fixed this. Anyway it does not really matter now,
vmware works.

# sysctl hw.model
hw.model: AMD-K6tm w/ multimedia extensions
