/usr/src/UPDATING should tell you.  You'll have to do two worlds -
first to update to the latest 3.5-STABLE, then to 4.2-STABLE.  Not
that I've done this kind of procedure in awhile myself.. but the
older your system gets the harder it will be.  :\
