My imlib always gets installed as just imlib-1.9.8.1, regardless of whether GTK is present or not. Might want to check that /usr/ports/Mk/* is really up to date, too. Also, take a look at: http://bento.freebsd.org/errorlogs/4-latest-logs/gnomelibs-1.2.11.log which shows a "no problem from empty" environment build for this.
