| Building an updated version of gkrellm will make your life much easier
| than trying to have different/old gtk versions.

Well, that's what i thought.  But i must be doing something wrong.
cd /usr/ports/sysutils/gkrellm
make clean
make

and that's as far as i get.  I used a ports tree from this morning.
The pkg_add -r command doesn't fare much better.  It complains i'm not
logged in and kicks me off the ftp server.

I'm sure this is a simple fix.  I need to learn more about ports, maybe
that's the problem.
