But then, you didn't state what sort of problems you were having, so > I can't really relate/compare. 1.8.1-RELEASE with its associated rules files dies with a signal 11 error; 1.8.2 build 85 and its associated rules files don't have this problem. (1.8.1-RELEASE was built from both the www.snort.org distribution and from the FreeBSD ports, same results). I ran 1.7 for quite a while (months). I tried various combinations of rules files; the Arachnids rules tended to cause almost immediate crashes of 1.8.1-RELEASE; running the full set of rules from the 1.8.1-RELEASE distribution did almost as quickly, reducing to a few rules resulted in longer times before a crash. I compiled with debug option, but that version never crashed. I've received several messages from other 4.4-STABLE users who report similar problems. The snort-devel mailing list produced a suggestion that this was a known problem fixed in later versions, which has turned out to be the case. I've been running beta7 and 1.8.2 build 85 without problems. MLS To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-ports" in the body of the message
