I used to have that problem way back with KDE 1.0. The problem, as I found it to be, was that KDM wasn't suid root (chmod u+s) by default. Hope that Helps. It has KDE 2.2.1. I just updated Qt to the lastest version in the ports tree. My KDE sessions work fine if I log in at the console and then do startx. However, When I run KDM, it comes up with the login box okay, but when you hit the button to log in, it flashes a blank X screen for a second, then goes back to the login screen. I think at one point I may have messed up the files in /usr/local/share/config/kdm. I copied the files from the XDM config directory to this one, replacing what was there before. Can you tell me which files should be in that directory, and suggest a site where I could find a configuration example?
