I've read (maybe in the cdrecord self documentation) that FreeBSD have problems when scanning the SCSI bus. Try reading the documentation. BTW, i do think that you still can burn anything. In my OpenBSD box the scanbus never worked and i still burn a lot of cds with the command: cdrecord -v dev=/dev/cdr_scsi_raw_device:0,target,0 iso_file_to_write.iso in my particular case, this works well with: cdrecord -v dev=/dev/rcd0c:0,2,0 iso_file_to_write.iso YMMV.
