I've installed FreeBSD on a DL380 (but not the G2). The installation kernel doesn't contain the ciss device. Build a kernel including that device and put it on the boot floppy. It will then detect the controller properly. If you want I can send you the custom boot floppy I used. On a slight tangent (and I may be jumping th gun here) Compaq have some public test machines set up including FreeBSD on i386 and Alpha. Here's hoping they may offer official support for it at some point. If not at least it's some more exposure. http://www.testdrive.compaq.com/os/#bsd.
