Hi Thanks again for your help, I appreciate that very much. I have been reading the 'supported drives' list on both burncd and cdrecord, and was therefore anxious to find a unit that was clearly supported / tested, not just expected to work through compatible technology. From what I understand, I should be able to use other similar solutions, like Freecoms Portable (a bit bigger, but less expensive) or Archos MinCDRW, all being - in reality - IDE drives, as long as they connect through 16bit pccard, or USB1 (but I also noted your problems with USB, so I think I'll go for the former). Believe it or not, external SCSI drives are not readily available in my country (Norway). They all sell USB2 ones now. And my best bet for getting hold of an APA1460 from Adaptec is ordering it from them directly.
