There are several outstanding bug reports to do with these - search the GNATS problem report database for 'ftpd' - although after a quick look I didn't notice any reports of the precise problem you mention. As the problem concerns thrid-party software produced outside the FreeBSD Project, this isn't a simple documentation bug. I've copied obrien, who imported lukemftpd into FreeBSD, on this message as I'm unsure how to deal with this. Would it be worth opening a new PR?
