Does changing this to:
ifconfig_hme0="inet 130.208.16.22  netmask 255.255.255.0 up media 100baseTX mediaopt full-duplex"
(i.e. adding 'up' before setting the media) work around it?

Does 'ifconfig hme0 down; ifconfig hme0 up' help in this case?
