Yeah, I'm not surprised you get this a lot, the behavior that a lot
of people want out of mergemaster is pretty difficult to figure out how
to get.

Also its difficult to find the answer when there's >200 hits on
mergemaster in the archives, most of them being about error messages or
about correct build order.  I did find this one though, which I think
points me in the direction that I want to go:
