Thanks. According to 'man fetchmail', the '-c' option will check for email without fetching or deleting emails on the server. However: 1. It turns of daemon mode; 2. "It doesn't play well with queries to multiple sites, and doesn't work with ETRN or ODMR."; and 3. It will tell you if there's mail at the server; but can't tell the difference between new and read mail. Andrew Gould
