We should probably close this for now. A lot has changed since this PR went in. The latest caret also requires qt4 and qwt5, as well as InsightToolkit which is not yet committed. To complicate things further, the next version of caret will require vtk5. I'll resubmit caret when all of its prerequisites are committed.
