The > configure-option is a much better fallback. > hw.model looks interesting, I had looked through sysctl for something to use but was looking for cpu or processor :-) The CPU detection only gets used if the mythtv configure isn't given the relevent arguments. It should be possible to get the port's makefile to add these if required. I was going to ry and get an vidia XVMC option working next. May switch to hw.model then although, ideally we shoul have a way to find "features" like MMX. (The Myth TV configure seems to both try to detect them, and in other cases assume fetures based on Model Name.)
