I have a 4830T, which I believe had exhibited the same problems, on 6.2-RELEASE now, and it's not giving me any trouble. The others I have are in systems still running 5.4-RELEASE. If I recall correctly, the problem only occurred if there were two drives on the channel. I got in the habit of replacing the Mitsumi drives instead of just adding a DVD drive, to avoid the problem. I haven't had many problems with these drives when they're used alone. I haven't seen the atapicam issue with these drives in 5.4 or later. I think this PR can be closed. I submitted it mainly to advertise the workaround anyway.
