###

Hi guys,
thanks again to Ian for his extensive reply and sorry again (Ian) for
my late reply. I managed to get my hands back on the laptop and so I've
tested the issue a bit.

It's bad.
Fn+F8 or F9 (which are the brightness keys) freezes everything. And
when I say freezes I really mean it.
There's no action doable. Network stops working (no ssh possible and
active connections are stuck), terminal stops working (impossible to
type and give any command). It's not only the video frozen but it
really does nothing (commands given are not executed).

I've tried with and without X already many times as I generally start
manually the X with "startx ..." command, same faith from single user
mode.

Systemctl parameters mentioned by you, Ian, in my laptop have the same
values. Strangely the Fn+spacebar always worked well (switches on/off
the light on the lid). I didn't try all of the Function combinations as
every time I do a test I need to brutally power off and fsck often has
to salvage something (the freeze interrupts also the filesystem
metadata operation I guess).

So, the machine "get a stroke":
- with X running
- without X running
- at init 1
No way to recover, no action of any kind possible apart from powering
it off.

The only message dumped prior the system freeze is the following:
"devd: notify_clients: send() failed; dropping unresponsive client"

P.S. It is not a hardware problem, I've tested with linux (Fedora 24)
and everything works flawlessly just as with any previous release.

P.P.S. Yes, I upgraded the system "textbook" which includes the ports
recompilation.
