None that I know of apart from the fact that I have a symbolic link for
etc:

root@crest:~ # ll /usr/local/etc
lrwxr-xr-x  1 root  wheel  10 Feb 18 20:27 /usr/local/etc@ -> /etc/local

As I said before, replacing the link with the real directory fixes the
issue for me. I see the same issue on all updated system that have a
symbolic link in the path (be it for /usr/local/etc or just for
/usr/local).
