This is an S3-868 based card, correct?

What in particular are you trying to achieve?  Do you have X starting at
all?

For your reference, here's a modeline for the 17sf that lets you run at
1280x1024 :

Modeline "1280x1024"  105    1280 1340 1520 1680  1024 1027 1030 1056

This pushes the monitor right to the limit of its operating range, but
it's been rock-steady on all the systems we use.
