I don't know if this will help, but when I was having a problem like this under NeXTStep, it was the wrong setting for the Adaptec termination.... I think I had it on AUTOTERM and it needed to be on DISABLED. I might be wrong, YMMV, use @ your own risk etc etc but if you have not tried that it might be one option. TjL
