First off if its going to be a server you probably won't need any fancy shamancy stuff like a sound card and 3d. The console only uses plain text. Do however, get the CD-ROM drive (IDE works fine) but you may have a problem with the drive under 2.2.7 or lower, as they can't see over 8 GB. 2.2.8 does not have this restriction. That Pentium-90 should run just fine. I would avoid using 3.0-R as it is still more of a development release. (Like me who has to install off of a AIC-7890.) I hear buying "The Complete FreeBSD" edition from Walnut Creek is the best way to go. Make sure you get your partition sizes right the first time, read lots of documentation ("The Complete FreeBSD", man, FAQ, handbook, etc.) Especially if you are a first time installer. As for games, if you don't add the student accounts to the games group they won't be able to play them. (I think.)
