Hi, I'm running jdk1.1.7 on my 3.2-stable laptop, it works fine, jdk1.1.8 was ported recently, go to http://www.freebsd.org/java for more details. If you want to use AWT or Swing packages, you need X11. Look at Xfree86 http://www.Xfree86.org and also in the ports collection or any commercial implementation of X11 http://www.FreeBSDMall.com You can even subscribe to freebsd-java, the dedicated list for java on FreeBSD :).
