When I ping broadcast I receive the following replies: oT# ping 192.168.1.255 PING 192.168.1.255 (192.168.1.255): 56 data bytes 64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=0 ttl=255 time=0.903 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.1.15: icmp_seq=0 ttl=60 time=2.136 ms (DUP!) 64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=1 ttl=255 time=0.865 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.1.15: icmp_seq=1 ttl=60 time=1.944 ms (DUP!) 64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=2 ttl=255 time=0.864 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.1.15: icmp_seq=2 ttl=60 time=1.996 ms (DUP!) 64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=3 ttl=255 time=0.767 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.1.15: icmp_seq=3 ttl=60 time=2.095 ms (DUP!) 64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=4 ttl=255 time=0.883 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.1.15: icmp_seq=4 ttl=60 time=2.195 ms (DUP!) 64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=5 ttl=255 time=0.917 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.1.15: icmp_seq=5 ttl=60 time=2.211 ms (DUP!) 64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=6 ttl=255 time=0.876 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.1.15: icmp_seq=6 ttl=60 time=2.113 ms (DUP!) 64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=7 ttl=255 time=0.813 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.1.15: icmp_seq=7 ttl=60 time=2.133 ms (DUP!) 64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=8 ttl=255 time=0.859 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.1.15: icmp_seq=8 ttl=60 time=1.876 ms (DUP!) 64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=9 ttl=255 time=0.891 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.1.15: icmp_seq=9 ttl=60 time=1.846 ms (DUP!) 64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=10 ttl=255 time=0.882 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.1.15: icmp_seq=10 ttl=60 time=1.992 ms (DUP!) 64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=11 ttl=255 time=0.888 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.1.15: icmp_seq=11 ttl=60 time=1.910 ms (DUP!) And obviously .15 is the last occupied IP in my network so I figurepinging broadcast should return replies from the first and last hosts.
