With regard to threads, you must add the following options to cc:

* at compile time:	-D_REENTRANT -D_THREAD_SAFE
* at link time:		-pthread

For more informations, read "man pthread"

Be sure that you are using the XFree86 3.3.6 port, at least. Previous
versions of XFree86 had no threads support in FreeBSD.
