You *MUST* for 4.3 use a HOST SYSTEM compiled for the LOWEST processor you want to installworld to. There is a few places (strip for one) that link in /usr/lib/libc.a and NOT the one from /usr/obj/... This is on the list of things to be fixed POST-4.3, but will be true in 4.3-RELEASE. This was discussed right after Kris Kennaway added the CPUTYPE support for RELENG_4, and I ran into it. See the archives with a title of CPUTYPE=i486 .
