Hello there! First, did you edit /etc/passwd or /etc/master.passwd ? passwd does not hold any passwords and serves only for resolving name/uid/fullname references, while master.passwd holds actual passwords. Second, did you run pwd_mkdb(8) after editing that file? This should be enough IMHO.
