Replying to my own message, on 
http://www.asus.com.tw/mb/socketa/a7n266-e/overview.htm Asus claim that 
the ethernet controller is a Realtek RTL 8139, which would appear to be 
convered by  the rl driver. Any comments would still be appriciated though.
