In you example above you have 0.39 < 0.5, which gives you 4.01 < 4.02 < ... < 4.09 < 4.1 < 4.10 < 4.11 < 4.2 < 4.20 < ... So basically FreeBSD 4.10 < FreeBSD 4.2 (which is not FreeBSD 4.02, the latter doesn't exist). Many ports follow this conventions, for example devel/cvs+ipv6, with 1.11.5 < 1.11.15. Besides, You'll have stuff like 1.0 < 1.00, which is strange too. -Oliver
